We actually came home early--Friday instead of Sunday. Ian had a cold when we left on Wednesday, he sneezed the whole 5 hour drive down. We were hoping it was just allergies, but no. So Olivia came down with it on Thursday night/Friday morning. Wednesday night we all slept fine in the same room. Thursday night--no so much. Olivia couldn't breathe and so was awake every 45 minutes. Friday morning she was acting strange and had a fever. So we made the decision to hurry home just in case seizures followed. We wanted to be at home with our doctors and hospital.
It was sad. Nana and Poppa had so enjoyed the kids on Thursday. That was nice and a first! They had babysat alone and the kids were so good for them. They are finally starting to bond. But then Nana and Poppa were so understanding about our desire to get home. We're not sure if it is because she was over tired and sick, but it seemed as if Olivia was having some blank seizures Friday morning. She never did have a febrile convulsion, which was good. Ian, however, needed steroids for his little lungs as the cold settled in his chest. Nothing like a slightly hyper 2 year old boy on steroids--whew!
Yesterday, Daddy came down with the cold. Now I have two sickly kids and a man with a man cold. We are just trying to enjoy our few days off including no church today. What little time we spent at the conference was good. DH got some really good feedback from other pastors and even received a job offer--not that we would move. It just made us appreciate our church home here even more.
Holiday planning is beginning. We'll have Thanksgiving with our small group this year. Then Christmas with Nana and Poppa, at their house, since DH's sister and her family are coming home from Ireland. We haven't seen them in 5.5 years. The cousins will meet for the first time. How exciting! Don't know how we can afford to buy Christmas presents this year, but we'll figure something out. I am thinking of making sporty bags for the boys (the cousins), you know drawstring bags that they can toss their soccer stuff in. That sort of thing.
Family pictures next Friday. Then Christmas cards to order. Plum jam, kiwi fruit chutney, and orange marmalade to make for gifts. DH will be getting several new pairs of sleeping boxer shorts, made by me. The kids have a giant box of new to them gifts from Granny. So we are covered. Not sure that the family in the US will get much, but maybe cards are enough. Usually we send gifts and don't even get cards from half of the family. We're just not that close or something.
Not sure what to do about a tree. Our fake tree we bought last year broke. Thinking about buying a ficus or something like that and decorating it. Or maybe a small tree to put on the table. Having a big--full on tree--seems weird when Christmas is in the dead of summer here. Not as prepared this year as I hoped to be, but it will all work out. It always does.
Glad to be home!
PS--DH came home to a package from his university. They have accepted his cross credits and all he has to do is complete a thesis to finish his Master's degree here. That is so exciting! I haven't heard from the Christian Counselling group yet, except to say they received my application. Hope I get approved for membership so that I can start working some--any little bit of money will help. Say a prayer!
