Chocolate Milk Thursday

Today's message is brought to you by Chocolate Milk. Yum! It's morning tea time here in NZ and today I am celebrating life by having chocolate milk instead of coffee. What a great idea! I feel better already.

DH and I have stepped off into a new field of adventure today, or maybe an old one. It depends on how you look at it. For the first five years of our marriage we worked together in ministry--sharing 1 position as either youth pastors or family pastors. At one church (our favourite job) we were youth pastors, family pastors, and contemporary worship pastors. Hated to leave that church. We still miss it.

This week DH got a rather abrupt suggestion that he re-write his job description to include all aspects of children's ministry as our children's ministry worker is leaving next month. He was a bit put off at first. He took this job in NZ because it was his first adventure into purely adult ministry, but it never has really been the job we thought it would be when we came. Not that it hasn't been great--it's just that in a medium size church job descriptions often change to fit the needs of the staff and the congregation. 

Together we came up with the idea of me coming back into ministry. We would share the job and salary (meaning no more money for us) with me working 20 hours a week in the office and basically taking on the children's ministry and helping with the administrative aspects of his work. We also have a hope that we can work with the new youth pastor (coming in June) to close the chasm that has existed for years between the youth ministry here and the rest of the church.

We shall see. This church suffers from what many churches suffer from which is lack of movement/vision. Sometimes they can't see the forest for the trees and may not see the value of getting a two-fer as ministry couples are sometimes called. If that be the case then God may have plans to move us on down the road. 

Prayers appreciated on this Chocolate Milk Thursday. We believe in this idea and believe this is where God is leading us. 

**Gotten a clean bill of health from my doctor yesterday. The only thing wrong with me is my diabetes and getting it under control. My RA has calmed down again. And the pain I had that put me in the hospital over the weekend is likely related to rib muscle strain from having had the retching tummy bug twice in 6 weeks. So I am excited with that good news and looking forward to swimming and walking and just generally being more productive! :-)
